Congress New Music Technology 2001 |
|
In 2001, the KLANGART Congress New Music Technology ´01 is dedicated to the central thematic area:
Digital & Multimedia Music Publishing
This congress which is scheduled from the 14th to 16th June 2001 in Osnabrueck is organised by the Research department of Music & Media Technology at the University of Osnabrueck, under the direction of Prof. Dr. Bernd Enders. Just like in previous years, the congress will be run in co-operation with the Town of Osnabrueck which organizes the Festival Klangart for the same period. The event will be held at the Osnabrueck Castle, Main Building of Osnabrueck University.
Whilst the major aim of both congresses in 1991 and 1993 was to present a broad spectrum of diverse aspects related to the subject Music and Technology, the congresses of the following years concentrated their work on the presentation of a special thematical focus related to the dynamic development and manyfold effects of digital music technology. During the 1995 congress, for instance, the subject of Digitalization of Media - Digitalization of Aesthetical Aspects of Music was discussed, and in 1997, the congress concentrated on the subject Music in Virtual Spaces. As a logical consequence, the congress in 1999 focused the attention of the participants on the third major component implied, the globalisation of music due to a world-wide linking of systems (Global Village - Global Brain - Global Music).
Now, having entered into a new millenium, a further perspective of musicology and of a general musical culture increasingly becomes the focus of public attention, a perspective that comprises new forms of disseminating musical knowledge, new forms of publishing musical material, and new forms of interactive usage of musical events. In view of the new challenges brought about by digilitisation and the implied technical convergence of media, by globalisation of communication systems and virtual representation of events and processes, we are faced with new possibilities and needs for the registration, processing and distribution of musical data of all kinds, and respective investigation and research in this field. In view of the large scope of dramatic consequences implied for musical editors, music libraries, institutions of music education, for concert agencies, music critics and scientific evaluations as well as for the entire sector of music commerce, it is indispensable to reflect on the problems that will result from this radical reformation of the publishing sector under editorial, artistic, scientific, educational, commercial, technical and legal aspects.
With its central thematic area "Digital and Multimedia Music Publishing', the Congress KlangArt 2001 aims at initiating further discussions and open up new aspects in and around this subject. >>> Conference Guide
