Beschreibung
This seminar introduces students to the analysis and interpretation of popular music. From the interdisciplinary perspective of linguistics and musicology, we aim to show how complex a seemingly banal hit from the charts can be, if the right questions are asked. We start from the assumption that a song is less a work of art than a performance. The parameters to be analysed are therefore not only lyrics, harmony, melody and rhythm, but also phenomena such as pronunciation, vocal expression and sound, instrumentation, spatiality and the many parameters of the visualisation of the song.
